pieces and just sacrifice them (or maybe offer them on Freecycle since people will take nearly anything)? I don't really want all of that excess length, although I'll probably leave some because this one always goes on top of a tall bookshelf over the winter. The part you see draped over the grill is just to show how much there is of it.

I have a huge one of these. Same plant for close to 20 years. I cut mine back all the time. I have it on a pedestal and when it reaches the floor I trim it. The leaves will get bigger and it will get bushier the more you trim it. You can put the cut pieces in a jar of water they root fairly quickly.

This type of plant can be cut in desirable lengths and put in vases of water where they will make their own great shape and are beautiful around the house. Cut long enough to reach the bottome of the vase with about 3-4" out the top, strip leaves off the part under water. The new bouquet may look straggly to start with. The only care needed is to watch and refill the water when it gets low (which is not often and these will root and can make more plants). Actually these in water are easier to keep than in pots and they are usually prettier. If desired, tie a bow the color of your decor and you have a beautiful plant. They are very pretty to stick in cut flowers to add beauty occasionally. They also make great hostess gifts and take one to a sick friend!

I have used craig's list many times to get ride of extra House plants...we are now down to a reasonable number that require just a bit of care...before it would take forever just to water them all not to mention pruning replanting etc. The ones that remain are mostly my sweeties now so she has taken over their care...in return I do all of the snow blowing shoveling, trash hauling etc

Gail, there probably is a plant swap somewhere, but I don't know where. I just posted the clippings on Freecycle. If no one scoops them up, I'll see if a garden club nearby has a swap. I'd actually never thought of that. Thanks.

Just cut off the long pieces, put in water and you will soon have another plant. I have them all over the house growing in water

Looks like gold variegated pothos. (epipremnum aureum)......good houseplant as it tolerates fairly low light by simply not growing a lot but will grow into a long, trailing vine in moderate to bright light. Easily rooted in just water. Tolerates being pruned back hard as well. Give away rooted cuttings or offer to local charities for fund raising (schools, churches often have spring fund raising efforts and can sell these for some income).
