Fix Scratched Dishes + DIY Teacup Candles

Scratches. They can ruin your favorite records, your brand-new cell phone and a good set of dishes. The good news is, at least your plates can be saved. Over time, wear and tear and heavy silverware can scratch dishes and turn china fit for guests into inner-circle only dishware. Instead of hiding your Wedgewood patterned china in the cabinet or investing in new dishes because of a few scratches, try turning to your trusted household friend - baking soda. Yep, all you need is baking soda, a large sink and a plastic scrubber to make your plates and bowls look like new. Tip: Wear rubber gloves when you’re scrubbing dishes to protect your hands.
1. If you have antique or expensive dishware, be sure to test it out on a small area on the back of the dish to make sure it doesn’t discolor or ruin the piece.

2. If you’re good to go, fill your sink with scratched china, and heavily sprinkle baking soda onto the dishes.

3. Add water slowly until the baking soda becomes a paste.

4. Rub the paste into the dishes with a plastic scrubber gently until you see the marks fade away.

5. Rinse the china thoroughly.

Armed with this new scratch-erasing technique, you can hit the flea markets with confidence. Buy scratched dishes and return them to their former glory, or stock up on old teacups and turn them into candles. They’re easy to make and impressive as gifts.

All you need are teacups, candle wax flakes, a wick and a stove. Tip: To keep your wick straight, use wooden kabob sticks to hold it still when you pour your hot wax into the teacup. For a full tutorial, visit Hey Gorgeous.
