I do this all the time. I fill the sink w hot soapy water. Swish the pine cones around for a few seconds. Rinse. Stack them on a glass baking pan in the micro and zap 1 minute to 1 1/2 mins. Then I spread them out to completely dry in the sun a few hours. Done! Ready to paint or decorate or cover w glue and cinnamon...
