I imagine a large piece of art on the back wall. For a budget piece, find a great piece of fabric and make a frame from wood trim pieces, using a mitre box to make your own. Don't skimp on the size...a 3' x 4' piece would be great. Or, if your style is more rustic, make an art piece out of pallet wood and stencil on a personalized "sign". Do a search on hometalk for "painted rug" and look at what folks have done with the $20 cheapo rugs from Home Depot/Lowes, and use a color that ties in with your art. For the window, just add another panel in the center between the windows to make it appear that it's one huge window, and to give more fullness. I can't tell what is on the left wall, but more art, or an art gallery of special framed and matted black and white photos could finish it off. Wal-Mart has pre-cut mats and you could have the photos printed very cheaply, or even use pretty pictures from an old calendar. You could even re-cover your chair cushions in a color to match the art/rug to bring everything together. I would think you could do all of this for under $250. Be sure to share what you end up with I'm sure you will get tons of great ideas here.

Definitely need art on that back wall. Maybe some pallet wood to make some fun word art or get a canvas and some paint and create your own abstract art! I would also add a rug under the table.

@Restoration House Interiors interesting project. I just saw this post today on here, http://www.hometalk.com/#!/655253/patterned-paint-rollers - looks like an interesting way to make a themed wall in the colour of your choice. I am partial to adding maroon or reds to the neutral pallets. The room also looks a little sparse - perhaps use some of the dresser repurposing on this site to add some furniture interest, colour and storeage. Lots of ideas from pallets as well. All of these ideas can be transferred to your next home as well. Would love to see your pics of your progress. Just love doing these kind of things, but understand how you can get behind with them, especially with kids at home, they always take precedence and time unexpectantly.

I think this space has great potential! I love all of the windows across the wall. They brighten the room and make it feel bigger than it is. I would put a large mirror on one of the free walls to double that illusion. I like the third choice of fabric; it is soft but colorful. I would choose a rug that either picks up one of the more prominent colors in the fabric or a not-too-busy pattern that coordinates with the fabric. Do you have a sofa table that you could use against one of the walls as a buffet? It wouldn't stick out too far and get in the way of walking through the room, yet it could be very useful. Good luck!

Nice room, For the back wall I would do some type of artwork in bright color, and around the door I would put smaller photos maybe family or animals.

  • @Patty @ Always Something @Trent-Tonya Sharp @Gail Salminen @Krafty Kat @Leslie D and @Linnea Krones I am overwhelmed by all of your advice! Love it! I love the idea of a rug which I honestly never considered since I've always hated rugs under dining tables as we've always have had smaller kids and a now 9 month old who loves to see his food fall to the ground. Loveing the pallet art ideas and the mirrors...thinking I am going to combine all of these! Hope to keep you all updated as much as possible on the space! Thanks so much!

Love this little room! I love wall stickers they go on and off easily leaving no marks and they have so many choices. I am in love with sayings so if I had this room I would put a saying on the back wall, then put pictures of the family around it. Good Luck=)

I'm curious - what did you decide to do?
  • @Patty @ Always Something Ha! Well, it's still a work in progress! I did refinish the dining table and have a plan for the room now that's solid but with traveling and the holidays I decided to put it on hold until after the new year! Will definitely keep you posted and updated though. Do you u follow my blog? That's a great way to stay up to date with all that's going on in the RHI home! Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback and follow up! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
