Just how durable is the countertop paint?

Question

Our laundry room 'inherited' some lower cabinetry that has a blue countertop, I would like to make it into a modern dark brown countertop. I would like to know if I will live to regret doing this. Any advise would be really appreciated. Thanks

There have been mixed reviews posted. I do not have personal experience with 'over the counter' products. I would assume that it is small and not very complicated (meaning required cutouts). Definitely do your research and comparison on the cost of a new laminate top. You may find that it would not be worth the aggravation to attempt resurfacing your existing top for the price.

I agree. While this product has both great reviews and some not so great ones. It all depends upon the quality of the install of the paint and how careful you are in using it. We have Laminate tops in our house. Old ones, not a scratch or mark on them. I have seen new ones under a year old look like they are ready to dispose of. A laundry folding table top would look fine for a long time one would think.

As a tile guy I tend to use tile for counters and have found a source for large 18 x 21 and 18 x 25' tiles. These tiles are cheap compared to granite slabs and when installed with 1/16 or 1/8 inch grout line look a lot like slab. comparing these tiles to laminate they are a bit more but for the extra bling I feel it is worth it. a 10 foot section of laminate runs about 150 bucks, or 15 bucks a liner foot or about 7.50 a sq foot. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=203243115&R=203243115#.UJvJkG_BFJs The granite tile I use with the intergrated bull nose runs about 35 to 40 for a 18 x 25' or about 18 to 20 per lineal foot. so for 3 to 5 buck more per running foot you can have granite over laminate

Thanks for the feedback! Since this is for our laundry room, I want to go the least expensive waypossible, but for our kitchen counter, which badly needs replaced, this sounds like a great idea...

@Z I have been getting it from a local supplier...they do mail order as well but when shipping costs are added in it may be more cost effective to look in your own area. http://www.bathandgranite4less.com/ These tile sizes are not limited to the denver area

Wow Kevin that's an amazing product. Thanks for the link. We have no need in our home at the moment, bus someday I'd like to replace the cultured marble in the master bathroom. At the time of the build we needed something faster and less expensive than the special order solid surfaces for our 84 inch long double vanity. Each piece was to be in our children's bathrooms, but when we found a deal on special order vanity tops that were returned for the size each of our vanities were we switched with the kids. Great deal for their bathrooms, but put us in a bind cost and time wise for ours now that it was 84 insead of 72 inches long.
