I know that the 'stuffing' inside some stuffed kid toys is ground up walnut shells. The heavier 'mass' of them contribute to weight balance. With the walnut shells being used in the bottom and fiber fill in the top.

Wondering if there are any suggestions that involve recycling, adding to my poor clay soil,...anything besides making a flower out of them? (thanks for writing, though....I'm not too crafty)! And I don't have anything to stuff...but I like KMS' idea!

You could add them to your mulch. They aren't going to hurt, and they can provide all the benefits of mulch. You can also compost them, but I imagine they will take a really long time to break down. 
Finally, they could be used for drainage in place of rocks in potted plants.
