My girls' bedroom closet is a nice size but wasn't being utilized properly. We purchased a set of open shelving in the as-is section at IKEA and my husband cut it down to fit against the low, back wall of the closet. A closet rod was added that ran the depth instead of the length of the closet. It works so much better for my girls now!
The shelving unit was one row of cubbies higher which didn't work because of the half wall and sloping ceiling. By shortening the unit by one row it fit perfectly and gives my girls a great way to organize their clothes. The hanging stuff was moved to the right of the shelves onto a rod we added that runs the opposite direction.
This is what we were dealing with before. A dresser that was barely big enough for one girl, let alone 2. Nothing was ever neat or tidy!
One side was taken loose and the bottom row removed - then the side replaced.
The new rod to the side of the shelving. Since most of their clothes are shirts, pants, and skirts we don't have the need for a tall space for the closet rod. We installed it as high as possible and it works for now!
Plenty of room for each girl to organize her clothes.
And the hanging clothes fit nicely too. It's made storage and organization so much easier in this room!
