Easy Valentine's Day Paper Cake Topper

I knew I wanted to make a strawberry cake for Valentine's day, but I had NO idea how I was going to decorate it. I rummaged through my craft supplies and came up with this insanely easy idea.
I'll bet you can guess how I made the cake topper just by looking at the picture, you clever thing. But I'll tell you anyway.
Bamboo skewers and toothpicks provided food-safe picks to stick in the cake. A collection of red and pink scrapbook papers from my stash were cut into a variety of heart shapes and sizes.
Glue the paper hearts to the skewers, and pop them in the cake at various heights. I told you it was insanely easy!
You could even just use tape on the back side of the paper hearts, and not even bother with the glue gun. That makes this project a great one for the kids to do, too.

And imagine the possibilities--kites and clouds, stars, planets... You could do this for any occasion!
