I don’t know about you but I hate doing laundry. The only thing I hate more than laundry is losing socks from one load to another! I usually just throw them back into the dirty laundry basket until a mate can be found. Well, no more!!
I saw this idea on Pinterest and I loved it. Here is the original idea:
Materials I used:
1 piece of Basswood Project wood (from Hobby Lobby)
1 Jar of Americana Chalky finish in the color: Escape
Mod Podge Gloss Sealer
Americana Acrylic Paint in Snow White
1 2″ Paint Brush

4 Wooden clothes pins

Smaller Craft Paint brushes

Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks
First, I started with my Wood and brushed off all the splinters.

Then I brushed on Mod Podge Gloss Sealer And allowed to dry for about 45 minutes, making sure to get every surface on not only the top but also the sides of the wood.

Then I brushed on, using the 2" Paint brush, the Chalky finish paint, 3 three even coats. Allowing each to dry in between for at least 30 minutes. You could do with 2 coats really but I added a third after erasing pencil lines which messed up the finish of the paint so a third coat was added. This paint has a neat almost crackle finish on top of the Mod Podge and it looks really nice..
I left it overnight to dry. The next day I took the Americana acrylic paint and painted “Lost Socks” on the top of the board, freehand.
Using the hot glue gun I glued four clothes pins to the board as evenly spaced as I could. The original idea had five clothes pins on it but my wood is a bit smaller than in the example so I limited mine to four clothes pins. I debated painting the fronts of the clothes pins but decided against it.

Here is the finished product! Cute, no?

Cute idea. I used to have an old bassinette in the laundry room where I would toss my socks to sort, challenging my little ones to find matches for the 'unwed' socks. They liked the game, and the socks were usually repatriated. Eventually, if there were some that never found a mate, they became dusting/polishing clothes (White) or doll clothes. Now i have a granddaughter, I found that she often prefers a different sock on each foot. We grannies don't sweat the small stuff with our grandbabies . . . I would never let my kids go with unmatched socks! lol
