You don't need to spend thousands of dollars to update your kitchen. Some chalk paint by Annie Sloan, some good friends and voila....a beautiful kitchen.
I had to pleasure of helping my neighbors with their kitchen makeover.

Adding drawer pulls and knobs completes the look of the cabinets. Can you believe the previous owner never had any and they lived there for 20 years?
Add dark wax to the edges of the cabinets to give that country {dirty} look.
Granite counter tops add a touch of class to the painted cabinets. 90s kitchen brought into this millennium.

Now that your kitchen has been painted almost a year, how has it held up? Have you had to re-apply the top coat of wax? I am wanting to paint my cabinets with chalk paint, but wonder about the finish.

I have the honey oak cabinets. Few years ago I painted them with white lowes laytex paint. With a poly sealer. They havent held up very well. I was curious what the process would be to chalk paint over the laytex & poly? Would i have to sand them down to the wood or light sand? Or no sanding at all? Thank you

I painted with Annie Sloan's Primer Red. I thought it looked to "purply" so I went over it with a brown glaze and it toned it down perfectly to the color I wanted. I also added blacks knobs, pulls & hinges......I am very happy with it. In October we are adding a cabinet to the end of the "L" shape counter that is going to house a diswasher drawer so we will be getting a new marble or quartz counter top. Of course I am also adding an undermount sink (smaller one since I don't plan on washing many dishes, lol), faucet and stove top....Can't wait.

I have use Anne Sloan and Heirloom Traditions and prefer Heirloom. The reasons are as follows Cost and I don't have to use a clear wax coat. Heirloom has several wax colors and the dark can go directly onto the paint with no clear coat in between. It gives you more control in how the finished product looks, applies easier and covers just as well with less cost. You can order both online.
