Queen Palm root ball size

I am planning to move a Queen Palm, 15 feet high to tip of top fronds, 8 inch diameter trunk at ground level. What would be the smallest size root ball can get away with without too much damage. Plant is quite healthy.

I'm thinking this is going to be in the 2 to 2 1/2 foot range...which is going to be quite the bugger to dig and move...Have you looked into one of those tree moving trucks that has the digging carry unit? this site has a big one...but them come in smaller sizes too http://www.evergreentreemoving.com/

You need to keep a much larger root ball on a queen palm than on a sabal palm. I suggest you read over this article from the University of Florida extension service: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ep001
