I'm trying to clean a side board and dinning room chairs which are close to the kitchen and have picked up the grease from cooking.

Hi, Pamela! I make an Orange Degreaser that works great for this kind of problem! You can find it here... http://www.hometalk.com/diy/clean/house/grease-busting-orange-degreaser-spray-6753690

A solution of Dawn dish detergent and water should work. Be sure to make sure you dry it thoroughly.

Dawn like The 2 Seasons said - if that don't get it try ammonia right out of the bottle, not diluted, on a rag. Try a small area first, like a leg, to see if it removed the paint along with the grease.

Is it baked on grease, or a heavy grease build up? Baked in grease is a hard sticky grease. If it's a hard sticky grease, I use a heavy duty Commercial degreaser, it is sold at Sam's in the automotive department. It is a degreaser/overnight cleaner it takes off hard sticky grease. Or I use TSP. Clean and rinse. If it is light greasy then Linda is right I would use Dawn. It depends on how heavily it is on the furniture. Always rinse, and always wear gloves when using heavy cleaning products. The Commercial degreaser such as the degreaser oven cleaner and TSP I never spray it directly on I spray it on a cloth then clean, the rinse. Hope that helps.

I have used veggie oil and baking soda in a paste. Rub it on and off comes the grease. Then wash.

I Love and Use a lot of anything to clean it, everyday liquid cleaning item in store "Murphy's Oil Soap". It is wonderful on baseboards and I cleaned a rattan rocker and could not believe how much grime was on the hand rails, so I cleaned the whole thing, looked new again! You can dilute it and re-wash several time if really bad grime or stubborn , let it sit a minute while you go on, them come back rub again and then rinse off. I use old rags. . I also wash down cabinets in kitchen and bath. They are wood and not painted. It works for me! Smiles, Cyndi
