5 Items to Replenish Your “Host Stockpile”

Now that all of the holiday visitors, bearing good tidings and cheer, have come and gone it is about time (according to the very serious and Emily Post-inspired Mon Amye handbook) to re-evaluate and replenish your hostessing stockpile.
No, not that bottle of wine stashed behind the cookie tins atop the fridge. (I have no idea what you’re talking about! Santa must’ve put it there…) I mean the actual items you want on-hand to help make guests feel comfortable and welcome in your home.
Rather than wait until next November 25th and whip yourself into a panic while defrosting a turkey and frantically trying to find a decent photo for the holiday card, a few moments now will insure that you’re ready for guests next holiday season (or throughout the year).
Here’s Amye’s Advice, a checklist for replenishing your Host Stockpile this month:
Linens
January being the White Sale month, there’s no better time to inventory your linens and towels and head to the nearest retailer for a discount.
First, while washing, go ahead and toss bedsheets that have “expired” (or, clean and set aside as project dropcloths.) Same goes for towels. I also evaluate – did I keep turning for a second set of Queen sheets, but only had Double? Make a note.
Then, when bringing home new purchases, set aside the new stuff in a less-frequently accessed “guest” shelf or bin. I keep the guest sheets near the spare pillows (also good to evaluate/replace now) so I know they’re all clean and ready to go when its time to make up the guest bed.
Barware
How many wine glasses were casualties of the season? Take a head count as you replace clean items in the bar cart and make a note in your phone for next time you’re out.
Were you also looking for champagne flutes, or other specific glassware? Now you’ve got 350+ days until next New Year’s Eve to find the perfect flute – no rush!
