Felt Ball Trees

I have a slight addiction to felt balls. I love just seeing them displayed in the numerous jars I have around the house. My husband finally asked if I was ever going to do anything with them, so I started making garlands. Well, there are only so many felt ball garlands we can have around the house, so it was time to try something new.
I dug through my stash of craft supplies and pulled out styrofoam balls, dowels, wooden spools, and a glue gun.
I stuck the dowel in the styrofoam ball and started gluing the felt balls to it. I did this until the entire styrofoam ball was covered.
To finish it off, I added some wash tape to the wooden spool.
This is such a fun craft, and the two felt ball trees I made totally remind me of winter and spring. I'm imagining a whole series of themed felt ball trees now. How awesome would a forest of spring or fall trees be?!

I am considering doing this project for a class I am teaching at the public library where I work. Can you tell me the size of the styrofoam ball and spool that you used?
