Window Treatment Solution

The windows in our master bedroom proved to be a little tricky when it came to curtains. But we came up with a solution that worked well!
Each of the 3 windows in our room butts up against the roof line or a wall or both. Usually when I hang curtains, I like to go high and wide. That wasn't going to be an option here. And I didn't like the idea of roman shades.
So I decided to make a curtain rod using industrial steel pipe. But instead of it being a full rod across the window (because that wouldn't really work with our setup) I decided to make it one sided and only hang one curtain panel.
These are the parts I used to make the rod:

3/4" floor flange

3/4"x2" nipple

3/4" 90 degree elbow

3/4"x24" threaded pipe

3/4" cap

Note: make sure to give the pipes a good cleaning, they're pretty messy. I just used soap and water.
I now had my curtain rod, but I encountered another issue -- length. From the top of the window to the floor was about 72". Standard curtain lengths come in 63" or 84", which wouldn't do me any good.
Do you know what I used? Head over to my blog to find out!

  • ..I havent read the remainder of the post...but I am thinking you used shower curtains ? they come in standard 72 " length. :) Great idea , and I was thinking you could use a longer pipe and add more volume with an extra curtain, if you desired to do so. :)
