We just did a bump out on our home color of stone goes from grey to sand. The new roof is called cedar but looks grey. We need help deciding on new paint colors. The house is located in Florida.

You will get about fifty opinions and many will be polar opposites from each other. So much depends on your personalities and personal color preferences. If I had your home I might go with a deep ocean blue or charcoal on the siding with orange(!!) shutters and door, and white trim. But seriously, take a look at exterior house photos on Houzz and Pinterest, check out Sherwin-William's color visualizer and have some fun with it.
  • ...I believe, such as MaryStLoius mentioned, ...look at your own color preferences and orientation of your home, and what other house colors are near you that ' speak to you"....personally, I prefer subdued neutral colors with perhaps a front door that is deep red, dark navy, or a deep sage. As stated, its about personal preference and your ' color personality'.

My husband and I went for long drives and took photos of houses with paint combinations we liked. It really helped us narrow the field.

Light gray or gray/blue on main body, dark gray on windows and trim and white shutters. Classic.
  • Type in "exterior paint colors with stone" on Pinterest or go to your local paint store and look at their catalog of exterior paint colors. See what stands out to you and maybe create a specific board on Pinterest for your ideas. Good luck!!

Find the jewel tone shade of your favorite color. You have a neutral background and any color you love will work. Please post an "after" pic and good luck!

Have you thought about the scandinavian style houses?

I think that a darker (charcoal grey) maybe 2 or 3 shades darker than the roof or the stone for the siding with bright white for the shutters and trim would accent everything well.

What ever you do don't paint any "grey", it is such a depressing color. Reminds me of a battle ship You need, in my opinion, to do something bright like a yellow or reddish color, even a brick red would be nice. Or go with a brown shade, not too light !

Go to PPG paints and use the computer color to test on your pic. Too light a blue anywhere can cheapen the look of the house. I do prefer neutrals and use color accents. A deeper shade of the blue shutters (blue sparingly) and the door is pretty. Those two items can be changed out in color any time for new look. Try out white siding, light and dark grey to go with roof, black accessories or your fave colors...I love playing with painting virtually! PPG gives color tests for your faves too. Taking rides and observing is great. Keep us posted. :) Keep to neutrals if you don't want to chop up your house with bright colors...grey is a good canvas!

KathyBH is right on, as far as I'm concerned! I might consider even painting the brick white, which I never would have done years ago....my house is a dark red rambler and the white shutters, etc. really go together nicely. Red was a big step for me, but turned out so nice.

Paint is your only hope. The roof is the biggest thing showing on your house...perhaps if you need a new roof...get a new color.
