Old kitchen gadgets and cookbooks can be fabulous things to use when decorating. See how to use these treasures to style a shelf in the kitchen!
After making some DIY art for my walls using cutting boards (check out my other post for that tutorial), I decided to put together a styled display in the kitchen. I wanted to use some of my favorite vintage pieces to layer on a shelf.
A white ironstone-like bowl is stacked on a pile of flour sack towels. Displayed in front of that is an old, loved and abused typewritten recipe card.
A very old, beat up rolling pin is tucked in behind a potted boxwood.
A wire basket was filled with a collection of old metal Jello molds.
An open shelf is the perfect place to display a collection of different items you love. Whether the treasures are actually being used or resting on the shelf for purely decorative purposes doesn't matter. What is important is that each item means something to you. And it may be that the only meaning is that you enjoy looking at it!
Sometimes less is more.....After putting together the entire display I felt the need to see what it would look like if I took some of the items out. Now I'm torn....which do you prefer?
