Hanging Shelves - A Small Room Storage Necessity!

Okay, so I'm pretty proud of myself for this one. I know, "hanging shelves..who can't hang a shelf?" I'll tell you who- this girl. All my years I've always had someone else to pawn the tedious task off to. Now as a single gal in the city it was time to put my big girl pants on and make this happen.
Don't they look so sweet and lovely? Well, let me tell you. These little devils were trickier than I thought to hang.
It all started with my very tiny room in Brooklyn needing storage (aside from under my bed AKA disaster zone/ don't look under there/ no ideas why my cats love it). I had space in between some exposed brick and my wall. The perfect spot for shelving!
So, I know I said I did this by myself, which I'm still rolling with; however, I did recruit my friend Micah to give me a little guidance and assistance in the beginning.

First we figured out the height that I'd like them. Since he's ridiculously tall I basically kept saying "lower...lower...yeah not low enough." What a good friend to put up with my demands haha.
Then I realized I don't have a leveler. iPhone to the rescue! I downloaded this leveling app and it worked like a charm. It's free and I definitely recommend it! (This is not a paid advertisement for Bubble Leveler...but if they want to send me some money I'd be totally okay with it haha).
We figured out where the support things go (my technical terminology is about to blow your mind in this post) and penciled where the holes were.
I made him drill the first set of holes. (He made me do the others..my first thought was "I hope I don't mess this up").
This was my first time using a drill. I felt very hardcore holding this bad boy (I'm not hardcore at all). Cosmo looks on in fear.
It wasn't as hard as I thought! After we drilled the holes we had to put the plastic plungers in. These can actually be a little tricky, because if the hole isn't deep enough they won't be flush with the wall. I had to end up taking a few out and drilling deeper to get them in all the way.
All three in, now time for the screws.
BAM. SHELF ACTION. After this shelf, Micah had to leave so I was stuck doing the entire last one alone, and I did it! *proud moment*
Here they are in all their glory. I got all the materials from Home Depot. The little baskets will hold all those things I need readily available- tights, hats, gloves, cosmetics, coffee k cups..you know..the essentials! ;)

I know this is peanuts to you crazy talented building entire rooms Hometalkers, but this was one small step for DIYers and one giant leap for Hannah Vaughankind.

Let me know what you think! You know I love reading your lovely comments. :)
