Make a Magnetic Knife Rack Out of Scrap Wood!

Are you tired of your knives taking up precious counter space? Love the magnetic strips, but hate that so many of them are just an ugly black strip? I know, I sound like an info-mercial, but seriously, this is how you can make a pretty magnetic knife rack. Practically for free!
First, take a block of wood in the size that you want your knife rack to be. I used a piece of scrap wood from my floating shelves project.
Give it a good sanding. I like my edges and corners to be nice and smooth so they look worn and rustic.
Measure your piece of wood so you can evenly space your magnets. I did 2 even rows of magnets. My rule was 2 magnets for each big knife so they were really secure.
Using a countersink drill bit, drill your holes.
Hot glue the magnets into the board.
Wipe it down with some water to open the wood then give it a good stain.
Wipe off the excess stain, especially on the magnets or they will get sticky.
Let it dry. You could probably add a coat of poly, but I didn't and it looks great.
I used command strips to hold up my knife rack. Those babies can hold anything! It's super secure and I have no worries of it falling. You could also add a hook on the back if you like.

Great idea! I'm going to go look in the wood stash! Would E6000 glue work as well? Maybe better?

I guess I was wrong...I am not the only person with that set of knives! They're my favorite.

Would command strips hold something like this on the side of a refrigerator?

Great idea I’ve been trying to figure out how I wanted to make one this will be a big help the only thing I would do is I think I would paint or stain before putting the magnets in and you wouldn’t have to be so concerned about keeping them clean
