Doggy stains

I know this puppy looks innocent, but she's been relieving herself all over the living room rug. Can anyone supply tips on getting dog stains out of carpet?

  • ...I believe the first order of "business " ( lol ) is corralling her. I would use a large exercise pen , tall enough to keep her contained, and this is very effective for housebreaking your dog; Controlling the environment is key to her not relieving herself all over the areas you speak of. I have housetrained many of my dogs, using an exercise pen and I also used it to contain them , in order to NOT have them ' wandering at will " . The exercise pen was placed in a tiled area ( no carpet ) . I used a crate also, for their sleeping area. I DO NOT agree with leaving a dog crated all day long ! They figured it out very quiickly and one must be diligent with this, if you DO catch them, you pick them up and say " AHHHH. NO .OUTSIDE ". Clapping your hands also works, then say " OUTSIDE". I advise against " potty pad training' , due to it being difficult ( often times) to train a dog to do its business outside, once its been using the pads. here is a link you may find helpful ..: http://www.lbah.com/word/housetraining-a-puppy/ To get rid of the stains/ smell...White Vinegar is your friend, A 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water, pour ( or spray ) right onto the areas, and blot as much of it up as you can. Then sprinkle with a good amount of baking soda, on the areas, then pour the vinegar water mixture right onto the baking soda . Dont be concerned , it WILL be like a ' little volcano ' thing, its supposed to do that. Let sit for 5-10 minutes. Blot away. I follow this procedure with using FOLEX in my steam cleaner, and I add a capful of ' smell good' ,whatever your choice of that is ( febreeze/ etc. )..but theres a great product called Fresh Wave....http://www.freshwaveworks.com

The puppy is so adorable! Anywho, I heard that pouring distilled white vinegar on the stain followed by a sprinkling of baking soda will pull pee out of a carpet. I found a blog post that shows how this works: http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2013/01/how-to-get-rid-of-pet-stains-from-carpet.html

A professional carpet cleaner told me( after my Shepard had the runs all over my one day old carpet) to clean up what I could then pour straight vinegar on the spot. let it sit for a few then blot DONT RUB! get a carpet cleaner and when you add water add VINEGAR and shampoo your carpet like a boss! Also leash that boy to your hip!

I had a professional carpet cleaner come in. He used an infa red (I think) light to detect the spots and then cleaned the areas. It wasn't cheap. It the odors and spots were removed and have not returned. TOOTSIE has not wet on the carpet again and no residue. We do put pet pee pads in the laundry room just in case. Pad training is a good way to get your pup closer to the back door and eventually out side. BE Absolutely sure to get a carpet cleaner who is certified by carpet cleaner institute. Your dog is beautiful, love and patience. Ha

Get some of that enzyme cleaner at the pet store that is specifically made for pet accidents. It's the only thing that will remove it completely.

Try a product called Urine Free. Check online to see if you can get it where you are. It is supposed to get rid of the smell completely so the dog won't soil in the same area again. Once they pee somewhere, they will keep doing it in the same spot or close by if they can still smell it. Sounds like you are having problems with house training her. I would get her vet checked to ensure she has no bladder control problems and ask the vet's advice on the best way to get her house trained to pee outside the home and not inside. Make sure nothing is wrong physically before you change training methods.

BTW, what is the living room rug made of? If it is animal skin such as sheepskin or cow hide dogs can be attracted to it and pee on it. If it is just a normal rug then Urine Free should get rid of the doggy pee smells.
  • You need to be persistent when it comes to house breaking a dog. And crate trained is the best.

Sure is a cutie. Have not heard of crate training. Not sure how this works to get them to go outside? Have had and still have quite a few dogs in the extended family and didn't have this problem with soiling. Of course, most were older rescue dogs. At times, they have soiled because they're ticked off. One demolished a vac because he associated it with being shut out of a bedroom.

Dogs won't go potty where they sleep unless there is a medical problem.. That's why crate training works. Be consistent with your routine, praise him and reward him with play time when he goes.

Spray the spots with "Scrubbing Bubbles", wait about 10 mins. and wipe up. Amazing stuff and it does not remove the color. I even use this method on swede chairs, and car seats.
  • I use Resolve pet stain remover for every stain! It even took red wine and red nail polish out of my carpet (darn because I HATE that carpet!) It comes in a spray or powder but the spray is best. I believe it is made by Oxi-Clean. It also removes the odour!

weird, found a cat pee stain on couch last night, so I'll tell you what I just did to get the smell out and stain. 16 oz hydrogen peroxide, 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid, 1tablespoon baking soda. mix together and soak area, leave on till completely dry. if a white residue appears it can be vacuumed or brushed away. if on couches make sure to get the cushion and the fabric. open it up and get right in there. repeat a few times with mixture. some even say just to pour peroxide straight on then baking soda and scrub away. can try. but first. soak up any wetness with rag or paper towels then use 40/60 vinegar water mixture in spray bottle or bucket for carpet. pour or spray on I mean saturate it. helps remove the odor. some say naturals miracle works can try that. or odoban. Vinegar gets rid of ammonia smell but the bacteria still exist which causes the current odor. (repeat stains). so then use peroxide baking soda . Floors do same thing. carpeting, if its really heavy u might need to remove or roll back carpet and padding and do treatment even on concrete it still soaks in. the use either the use either kilz or shellac to seal floor. make sure to clean under padding and the carpet. I hope this helps. so far so good for me. and will keep using the vinegar water spray to help neutralize any pet smells. way better then urine or feces any day, plus it does dissipate after a while. the other mixture h.p and b.s and dishwashing liquid u can substitute and use orange smelling pine sol. acts as a refresher. sorry for rambling. good luck! and hope it helps

I use clear mouthwash in my carpet cleaner. It takes out the smell, but test your carpet first.

Also petco and pet club carry a great product that takes smell away. It has a chemical reaction when squirted in the spot to remove all smell
