Giving A Little Footstool A New Life

I found this little foot stool sitting with a load of "stuff" on an old hay wagon in the rain. It was looking so sad and miserable, all wet and cold. I felt so bad for it that I grabbed it. Along with a car load of other stuff that they guy tossed in for me. Took it home, gave it a good cleaning, new paint and a new cover and voila!!

First: Poor thing was so sad looking. Beat up, water stained legs, the cover had the ugliest fabric on it. I think at one time it was a pink satin or something....now it is just ugly!

So, I took the seat off.

Not in terrible shape actually. Had some water damage on the base of the legs, but it cleaned up nicely. Next I sanded it all down, primed it and painted. Then went to work sanding down the stool again. The final step for the paint was a nice dark glaze. Since the detail on the legs was so nice, I really wanted it to stand out. Took my Rust Oleum Java Brown glaze and went over the entire piece. LOVE how the lines in the legs show up now.
Sorry...forgot to get pics of the first time it was sanded.

Next I tackled the seat. It had THREE layers of fabric on it!!! And then I found TWO layers of padding...well...guess you could call it padding. One was foam, not in too bad of shape, but very dirty.

I think the people who last played with this had stock in some company that makes staples because there had to be a gazillion of them in it!!! Took me HOURS to get them all out and then I found MORE under the padding!
The last layer of fabric was held on with THUMBTACKS! I had never seen that before.

Ok...so the seat was in nice shape. The wood was solid, not cracks and not broken anywhere so, it just got a cleaning, new padding and new fabric.

Yeah, I know, this is not a photo of the stool finished with the new cover. I was just trying it on for size here.
Here it is all finished! Very handsome!!

I listed it in my Etsy shop and it sold the next day! The buyer wants another just like it too. :)

I am happy with this little foot stool and how nicely it turned out.
What do you all think?
