    We have had a similar one in the family for years. My son, when he was younger, actually drilled a few holes in the top to hang a few of his toy men from. (Boy's will be boy's.) So I finally took it, gave it a good sanding and painted it a really pretty pale yellow. As it was to become my new sewing desk I opted to cover the top instead of replace, so I sewed a scrap cover out of old jeans and then made the handles look like little pom-pom's out of jean as well. I am very happy with my results.
