I removed the carpeting and am now left with bare concrete floors. They have glue & paint splotches all over it.

you can pour adhesive remover on the glue, let it sit a little while then scrape off. after that you can do peel and stick tiles(I just did this),paint, brown paper bags. lots of choices

I accidentally discovered that a product called Greased Lightning will remove paint from concrete floors (and possibly the glue too). You can buy it at Lowes or Home Depot and it is not as caustic as some of the adhesive removers or acetone, etc., and it smells clean! It's a wonderful cleaner as well, but not for wood or painted surfaces... Once the paint and glue is gone, check out some of the great new concrete stains they have, its an inexpensive alternative to covering the concrete and the results are beautiful.

Joey, Greased Lightning is a cleaner/degreaser but is not for wood or painted surfaces. I accidentally left my mop (with about a 1:10 ratio with water) on my epoxy-painted concrete floor and when I put the mop away, I noticed the paint had bubbled up and was easily removed with a stiff brush. Steel wool will remove any remaining paint with little effort. It's GREAT on hard to remove carpet stains, outdoor furniture, and other non-painted surfaces. Of course, check for colorfastness and so far, I haven't found anything that won't come off with diluted amounts of the product.

We went through this process in our house. Once we got the big "globby" stuff off, we put down vinyl plant flooring (Allure) from Home Depot. It was the easiest project I've ever done. Went down great over the concrete and it's held up great so far.

If you are on a tight budget, once you get the glue and paint off, you could consider painting or staining the concrete and getting an area rug, scatter rugs or even an indoor outdoor carpet they sell in bolts at Home Depot or Lowe's.

We got our glue up by using full strength pine sol in a carpet cleaning machine and then our Shark steamer. We painted our floor and we hope to use pennies and self leveling epoxy to cover that spot. You can stencil and then use epoxy to seal it. That's about as cheap as you can get. Please post your final product.

That PineSol is also great for fleas if you have pets. Just give them a bath in diluted PineSol and watch the fleas drop off and die.

Our local Menard's has a glue or tape down carpet; a Berber with attached padding, for less than $1 square foot. We have a basement family room we are putting that down in with carpet tape. Warmer than bare concrete and actually pretty nice looking.

I'd love to know how you accomplished your task, a picture would be great too. Good luck and happy flooring!
