Looking for some inspiration....

I have always been good at copying photos in catalogs (hello Restoration Hardware), but I am seriously lacking in the creativity to come up with ideas for my master bedroom and bathroom. Here are a few shots of my master bedroom and bathroom.
Any ideas from you fabulously creative people? I just can't seem to figure out what I want to do. I know I want to paint my bedroom furniture and raise up my headboard on the bed. Other than that I am kind of clueless.

Just me, but I think your headboard is too low. I'd also paint the door frame to match the door and baseboards. Your rooms are tasteful, but think you need a splash of colour to wake up the neutrals - maybe some turquoise accessories. Am also a fan of plants (real or artificial) to soften lines, etc. I see a corner by your sofa which one of those large, frondy plants in a larger round pot would look great in.

@RCooper @ thoughtsbyher.com Tricky. I have an imported toilet - weird setup with the seat - don't know what I'll do if I have to replace it.

It appears there has been some recent renovations because of the odd window beside the bed that also seems to be the same window behind the bathtub. If so I would close up the opening with drywall at least on the bedroom side, & possibly put inset shelving in that area on the bathtub side to hold shampoos, or just pretty accessories. I also think possibly a change of paint color in the bathroom with something in a brown tone or warm undertones might work better with the color of the shower tiles, & the tub surround. Maybe add some softness & mood lighting with something like this in the bedroom: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/127578601919870823/

@RCooper @ thoughtsbyher.com I see, in that case no walling them up! I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your father, I lost mine when I was young 42yrs. ago & I still miss him.

Also by the print behind your bed, I'd say you lean toward the romantic a bit so perhaps a cheval mirror like this if there is a space for it: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/mirror/rosette-framed-mirror-7114285

@RCooper @ thoughtsbyher.com I got an ideal that your bathroom was leaning toward the industrial, but didn't have enough clues to catch that in the bedroom. I like industrial as well. If you are also on pinterest you might check on there for some industrial bedroom ideals... I can get stuck there for hours! :)

Hi! It appears that the overall effect you are going for is a calm, spa-like space with lots of neutrals. But when you use all browns and beiges, everything blends together until your eye lands on something stark, like the brown shaded window. Perhaps a little soft color out of the brown tones would help to brighten the rooms up just a bit? This color, Woodlawn Blue by Ben Moore, has hints of greens and blues and complements your color choices perfectly. You can see how beautifully it combines with your existing palette. So, here is what I would do: Raise up the headboard, then add a horizontal mirror or architectural piece above it to really make the bed the focal point of the room. Move the lovely painting of the girl to the left side of the bed to balance out the square window on the right side. Paint out the door frame to match the rest of the woodwork. Use the Woodlawn (or some other color of your liking) to paint out the side tables and the trunk at the foot of the bed, using silver metallics as a complementary metal to co-ordinate with the adjacent bath fixtures and reflect some light. Add throw pillows and a soft fur throw for the bed in the blue shade (and maybe a little blanket for your pooches : ) Remove the brown roman shade and replace with some lighter matchstick blinds to balance the visual from the painting.

I would suggest moss greens, robin egg blue or even a lavender as accent colors. Throw pillows, throws, vases and other decor. I would add a mirror to balance out the window or just add another curtain rod and curtains to look like another window. Maybe the mirror above the couch to reflect the light from the french doors. Maybe add bamboo or reed roman shades to the french door. Add plants. Maybe a table made out of industrial parts or tree trunks by the couch. Paint the door trim to match baseboards. What ever your accent color is bring some of that into the bath room as to tie the rooms together. I like the grey. I suggest you frost the glass in the window and if there is room add glass shelves for bathing supplies and a plant.
    • @Tris Smith Loving your ideas. I really have needed to actually do a nice window treatment to the one window we have and add the same in a different location for an imaginary window. I do also need to finish painting the door trim. I have just been so uninspired. I will make sure that I do something to tie the two rooms together and I like the idea of frosting that window! Thank you so much!

Since your room has a lot of brown, I would paint the walls a lighter color (both bath and bedroom). Cream? Light beige like your carpeting? If you can't paint, then I would get some aqua rugs and white with aqua for the curtains in your bath. For your bedroom, if you want a taller headboard....could you just raise it up and screw it to the wall? If not, maybe hunt the thrift stores for a taller one that you can paint. I am not sure I would paint your night stands...they look nice now. I would pull your couch over and center it in the middle of the wall and put the picture you have over your bed, over the couch, about 4 inches high. For over your bed, I would get a decorative mirror. Take the smaller pillows off your couch and maybe get aqua ones with a matching curtain for your bedroom window....then a throw of the same color draped over your trunk at the foot of your bed. I like the color of your bedding and especially like the two little hairy "munchkins" that are on the bed watching you take the picture.

    • @Pat Oh and thank you for the comment on my munchkins! They are Copernicus and daVinci. Spoiled ROTTEN.

I would put floor length curtains on the window in the bedroom & a lighter color in the bathroom. Plus, yes paint trim around French doors. Pick a brighter/lighter accent color & a tall plant in that corner would look nice or like a ladder shelf.
    • @Amymnewbury I do need to add some nice curtains! But I do love the paint colors as they are, minus the lack of paint on the trim. I have just not been very inspired. Thank you for the ideas!

Back again. REally like the idea of adding a faux window on the other side of the bed for balance. I'd look for a large pic of similar theme to your existing art for the blank wall in the bathroom or a long mirror.
