Frozen-Inspired Vanity and Decoupage Tutorial #PaintJob

5 Hours
Medium
My daughter, like every other little girl in America, is OBSESSED with the Disney movie, Frozen. She asked me to redo her room in a Frozen theme, so I figured I'd start with her vintage vanity. It's been refinished before, but the latex paint finish had seen better days! It was actually a Craiglist steal for only $75! With a little bit of work, she was revived into this! Make sure you check out the link below for a detailed list of all the products I used, step by step instructions with photos and videos, AND for the custom color formulas!
In case you forgot what she looked like originally, here is a picture.
I had done her in pink and gray but the latex paint was lifting and peeling. I stripped her with an awesome heat gun, then I painted her in a custom blend of DecoArt's Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint using Rebrembrance, Everlasting, Treasure and Refreshing. You can take a look at my blog post for the exact custom paint color formulas. After that, she was ready for stenciling and decoupaging.
I bought a $5 poster from a big box store, and cut it up using some scissors as well as a precision craft knife. I measured where I wanted to cut for the drawers by lining up the image and taping it onto the vanity with some painter's tape. I marked up the image lightly with a pencil, then took it off the vanity to make the cuts on a cutting mat. I used a ruler to make the cuts clean and straight.
I decoupaged the images on both the drawers and the top. I first applied some decoupage medium to the wood and to the back of the image. I smoothed out the air bubbles with a card (you can use a smoothing tool or a credit card), then ensured I didn't get any wrinkles by waiting until each layer of decoupage was completely dry before adding the next. Isn't she LOVELY?!
I used a set of snowflake stencils by my favorite stencil company and some glass pulls to complete the theme.
For only a few hours of work, and not a lot of money, my daughter now has a custom piece for her Frozen-themed room!
