DIY Easy Felt Banner for Kids
Every month 11 other bloggers and I do a Home Depot challenge; where we all take the same item from Home Depot and create a gift from it for a specified person. This month, our chosen item was a wooden dowel, and the gift recipient was for a child. I decided to make a cute little educational banner that can grow with them as they advance in their learning! It was quick and easy; and, a huge hit!
First, I bought a yard of felt. I measured and traced my "banner" according to the size I wanted it to be. I cut my wooden 3/4inch dowel in half, so it was 2 feet long.
Then, I cut out my banner and ironed it. I glued the felt over the dowel and left an inch of the dowel sticking out on either side.
I tied some pretty ribbon to hang it, and also added a little pom pom trim to jazz it up.
I bought pieces of felt at the craft store in a ton of different colors, and drew and cut out shapes and numbers.
I also made a little box holder that the felt pieces can be stored in, using a cereal box.
I hung it on the wall, and that was it! This was so quick to make, too, and is the perfect gift for a child! The felt sticks to itself, so they can manipulate the shapes and move them around. As they get older, you can add letters and they can form words.
