I am getting ready to do some updates/remodels in my main bathroom. I really want an electric fireplace but my bathroom is very limited on space. After doing some contemplating, I came up with an idea I really like but not sure it is possible. Has anyone ever seen or made a custom bathroom vanity with an electric fireplace on the front?? I am thinking fireplace in front, storage behind. What do you think?

  • What your doing is customizing your bath for your desires. Not that is a bad thing, however you must remember if your not going to live in the house for a long time, such an improvement will lower the value of the home. Also electrical items such as this in a wet location is not very wise. Although they are not really a fireplace, you still have glass that could break and a 220 voltage that you would need to deal with. Also I have an idea that it may not be approved by the local code enforcement agency. I would check with your local building department to find out about any special clearances that may be required before you put to much thought into it and become discouraged in the project.

  • Kelly... I applaud you for thinking out of the box... but I must agree with Bob. If it is ambiance you are looking for, how about a flat screen and one of those fireplace dvds somewhere on the wall?

Why not put heated mats below the tile on the floor? Safe or how about a heated towel rack on the opposite wall from water...get out of shower and grab a warm towel...or 2. You could even hang a small robe over the heated towel rack. Just be careful!

I highly doubt the NEC or Local Codes would sanction or even approve such an installation. Good luck........INHO....a bad idea

besides the obvious already stated -- if you could pull it off, would it even deliver the level of ambiance you are seeking? Being that it is below your waist and the room is small, could you really enjoy the view <?> Any chance you could sink it in the wall behind the vanities? There are sooo many on the market these days! I am picturing a long narrow one, LED even...maybe above a short mirror... or below for that matter. If that doesnt sound realistic, then maybe share a drawing of the footprint and something else will come to me :-)

Hi Kelly, we'd love to see that if you end up doing it, but one way people add electric fireplaces to smaller spaces/bathrooms is with a wall mounted unit. This pic is of a built-in, but you can see how it would fit above a tub. We have all shapes / sizes and are happy to recommend something! http://www.electricfireplacesdirect.com/?utm_source=hometalk&utm_medium=social&utm_term=20140129&utm_content=textlink&utm_campaign=lm
