Suggestions for how to use this

Husband brought this home, I cleaned it up and added a coat of poly. Now what to do with it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Well as beautiful as it is, I would cut it in half, and make a water fountain out of the bottom one laying on its side and the other half laying a little bit on top, say the edge of the bottom half, and have ivy growing down, close to the water......Jill UK

I wouldn't cut it in half, you can find half barrels a dime a dozen, whole barrels are another story...

My brother used one of these at his wedding to sign instead of a guestbook and now it's a side table in their family room! But for outside use I love this idea http://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/garden/fountain-wine-barrel-diy-4073309

I would print a nice W or sketch a nice W for your last name on it. Drill holes as the outline of the W. Place a spotlight or another type of light inside the barrel and sit it on front porch or beside front door. At night people see the light coming through the holes for the W.

You could buy a round tabletop at a home improvement store and attach it to the top. Stain or paint the top and add a couple of small stools to sit and you have a functional piece.

Depending on your home décor, I can see this as 2 ottomans. Cut in half vertically (although I'm not crazy about cutting a whole barrel) place leather in between the 2 center bands, lay open side down. A unique ottoman and a little storage underneath for blanket, etc!

You could make two chairs. Cut so that the seat is about 1 inch above the rings closes to the center.. Add a platforrn in the bottom to form a seat, Create cushons and put legs on it. You will have two very unique chairs. I would leave the color just as it is or stain it, but I would not paint them.

It could be used as a base for a table top. With a couple of chairs and tablecloth, you can use it as a cozy place to sit and sip drinks. It can be converted into a cooler for keeping drinks cold. You can paint it and keep it in the yard or garden or front of the house and put a large, beautiful bouquet of flowers on top.
