What is best way to kill Ivy?

Robert
by Robert
Previous home owners planted this around the house and now it has grown and rooted itself under a sun porch we have. It's pretty thick too. Read that spraying it with a solution of Borax mixed with water would kill it - just wondered if anyone had tried that or knew of a way to kill this invasive plant? I'm also not concerned about what else it might kill as I don't want anything growing up under this porch anyway.

I get great results with Roundup Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer. I've seen leaf wilting in just a couple of days in hot weather...longer in cool or overcast conditions.

Has anyone had any success with the recipe I found that someone else posted of vinegar, salt, water and Dawn detergent sprayed on it? Would much rather deal with that than these chemicals if at all possible.
  • That may work but would only be a top kill, round up will kill the roots and give much better results

Well you can use copious amounts of salt but then nothing will grow there for a very long time, including the ivy.

Please note that both salt and detergent are more toxic for oral ingestion than the chemical in Roundup.

I have used the same Roundup the Walter recommended with great results.

I know that Walter but Robert was asking for something besides Roundup. Roundup is the only plat killer I use anymore. Sometimes, with woody weeds, it takes more than one application to get rid of them but it will get rid of what ever you put it on sooner or later.

No mercy for this invasive, non-indigenous invader plague. It crops up in my yard meters away from my neighbors infestation. CP

Ivy has been growing on my neighbors wood fence and onto my property climbing a few trees and ground cover. I will give Roundup a try, so disgusted with the whole thing.
