I love what can be accomplished in Photoshop Elements (PSE), I have been dabbling with this program for nearly 10 years. I feel I am now quite profient even though I am self taught. I probably own a dozen how-to books and just love to experiment.
This project is one of my most precious and it started out as "dabbling" session and ended up as a "oil painting" printed on 12" x18" stretched canvas. It is hung in a predominant spot in our hallway.
This is the original photo
Above is the original photo of a group ballet routine. In it, my daughter shines while doing a perfect arabesque. Using a variety of PSE tools, I extracted her to a new file with no background. Because she was just a small area in a big photo, the result was a very grainy picture. To hide the graininess, I tried a few artistic filters in PSE until I achieved a look of an oil painting.
Cloud background created in PSE
For my first attempt, I created a cloud background. It was okay but the floor was not realistic.

I was editing a lot of dance photos at the time and purchaed some cool backgrounds on line.

Below is the final product which I had printed onto canvas and framed.

I love and cherish this piece and it all started as an experiment
The final creation.
