Straw bale gardening

I have been reading about straw bale gardening (planting vegetables on top of straw bales) and find it a very interesting concept especially since I have rods in my back and cannot bend. Is there anyone who has tried this method of gardening and could tell about the results and, or tips about it.

First the bale must be tight. We use cargo straps. tighten around bale. Next make a small planting hole in the and with just enough soil for the plant. You must keep the bale damp and use plant food to feed the plants. This is the best way we have found. Good luck

  @Rick Thank you Rick for the tips. I really want to try this and will remember to reinforce the bales, feed and water. Do you prefer this way of gardening to the ground soil type?

It is much easier on the back. Just remember to feed and water.

Joel Karsten actually developed this gardening method. Like him on facebook for ongoing tips. I LOVE SBG!
