Do you ever look at a product and just know it is screaming to be turned into something else? This little crate I found at the thrift store was one of those! Some wood, wax and rusty wire turned him into something beyond adorable!
I started with the little crate. I needed to sides so I cut some 5in x1in shapes out of T1 11 with the miter saw. Sanded everything down and gave a quick coat of white spray paint.
Now comes the BriWax..have you used this stuff yet! OMG you are missing out if not. It is by far one of my go to items to use when refurbing any project to make it look rustic and vintage. (you can find more projects using it on my blog). Grab a piece of steel wool and dry brush it on. Let it sit for about a minute then take a clean piece of steel wool and buff it in. It gives the most authentic rustic look I have ever seen. No need to chip paint, sand it...just leave it go. It is also a sealer because its furniture wax...so you can end just by using it! Its perfect!
Take the sides and drill a hole the size of your wire in the tops. Then I used a heavy duty staple gun and stapled the wood onto the crates.
Then taking a piece of rusty wire, I cut a really long piece. I did it so that I could add some curls to the center to give it a spring look that just adds so much texture to this piece. Then I did the ends to secure it in place. You can see a better image on my blog since it cuts the whole thing off in the next photo. sadface!
Add some eggs and spanish moss to turn this beautiful crate gone basket into a decoration for Easter. Then remove the eggs and add some jars to house succulents for spring...so many decorating ideas with this gem. What would you use it for?
