DIY Wood Pillar Makeover

I found this little gem of a wood pillar while Craigslist furniture shopping. I initially planned on buying this little table but as i was leaving i saw this little wood pillar tucked away in the corner just gathering dust. So i asked the owner how much he will take for the pillar and he was so sweet he gave it away for free. What a score.
But My God this little dude was super heavy. It weighed a TON.
So here is the before shot of the pillar. It was pretty beaten up in some area mostly around the base area, but nothing that couldn't be fixed.
So first off I started painting it in the color Raspberry. Gave it two coats and things started to look way better.

This is how it looked after one coat of the Raspberry.
Next I went in and painted the beautiful carving with Gold Liquid Leafing.
I painted the whole top part in Gold as well. Just one coat of the gold brightened up the entire pillar.

Then i went in and added some Charcoal grey at the base and with a lighter shade of purple blended the grey into the Raspberry.
And there you have it my free Craigslist find turned into something that brightens up my whole apartment.
