I really need some advice.

I would really love to install some built in bookcases on the end wall in my family room on either side of a window, while also creating a window seat under the window. (I have uploaded a picture of what we would like).
The problem; we have baseboard heating (from a boiler) all along the wall where the bookshelves will be installed.
Would it be a bad idea to mount the shelves above the heating unit?
Also, everywhere I look there is only one type of vent for baseboard heating, is this my only option in baseboard heating?
