The Old Sign Shutter Shelf That Saved My Home

2 Materials
Easy
The best day ever was when my neighbour paid me a visit... to inform me he was knocking over his old fence, and did I want the wood?
That poor man... I sprinted past him, running down the road faster than my own two feet! (old wood vs chocolate? I can't tell the difference)
So this weekend I was giddy to make something cool with it. I painted up the wood planks to look like a chopped up crate, added a couple of old shutters, and ended up with the cutest old sign shutter shelf in the land.
This little shelf came at a really good time. I had been feeling kinda 'meh' about my home, but this one, new project really brightened up my outlook...
Bits and pieces of this and that, this upcycled old sign shutter shelf was so simple and fun to make!
Here's the fence that started the reclaimed wood frenzy. Isn't it GORGEOUS?

I still don't get why my son didn't feel quite the same way... may have something to do with him having to help me pound it down? I didn't dare ask...
Well, let's convince him that his efforts were a good idea!

First up, I used my GROCERY stencil (from my own stencil collection) to letter it up.
Sigh... do you love old signs as much as I do? We will be BFF, I can just tell!

Adding shutters for the sides was a fun, upcycled twist! You can even open the slats to allow more light inside.
Planks were cut to size, being careful to showcase natural edges.
This cute little shelf was the PERFECT addition to my most favourite room in the house!

Love this idea, but I am even more intrigued by the checker/chess board and yardstick toilet paper holder! VERY cool! I can see why it's your favorite room
