There's many reasons to have a "no shoe" policy in your home. It could be for health reasons and to keep your house cleaner and nice. Whatever your reasons there's a few things you can do to make your guests feel comfortable while asking them to take off their shoes.
Have a place for your guests to store their shoes.
Have a sign. There's some great ways of having a sign without putting one on your door.
Create a mini mudroom. I created this small mudroom in my family room where my family and guests can sit, take off their shoes, hang their purses, coats, and hats. No matter how small your space, you can create a space like this.
