Unsturdy mailbox post

After having over 9 feet of snow in two weeks my mailbox post loosened up. How can I make it
sturdy in the soil again without major work? I am a 73 year old somewhat handicapped woman.

Straighten up the post then add some sand to fill up any gap. If the soil is wet you can push down on the soil ,pushing it toward the post on all sides. Push the soil after a few rainy days. Sometimes that's all that's needed. Then when the soil dries it will be nice and tight again.

Wedge it in with some rocks.

If you follow eglehawk's recommendation an easy way to tamp it down is with the end of a piece of 2x4.

Actually, the best way to firm it up is to dig the dirt out around it and pour in dry cement. It will absorb moisture from the ground and be cemented securely in place.
