Creating A Mudroom

Homestead 128
by Homestead 128
When we moved into our home there was a ramp from the garage into the house that was unused, and a collector of dirt and bugs. And it was also the place where people walked through when they came to visit. I knew we needed to create a space that was both functional and beautiful and so we got to work.
When we first moved in the space was unfinished and the floor wasn't even. Water would leak in and spiders loved to living in the corners.
Fast forward a couple of months and we finished off the walls and created bench seating. From there it was time to create places for shoes, wet boots, coats, hats and even sunscreen.
The end result is a mudroom that is functional and also beautiful. My full list of sources and tutorials for projects are available on the blog post!

You did a GREAT job. The area looks wonderful. But i would have improved it even more but making trap doors under the benches to store the extra shoes, slippers, boots, etc. Under the bench, I would put a metal or plastic rack on the floor with a tray under it, so that any dripping of water during the winter months from snow, would fall into the tray. Everything would be 'out of site' and would make the room even neater. I would drill a hole in each door (big enough for a finger to fit in it) so that you can open the doors easily, plus there would be air circulation in that storage area so that mildew would not start there.. Put magnets on the doors for easy opening and losing. Good luck to everyone who trys this project. It really is easy. Elsie
