DIY Armoire

It's a good thing that older homes have charm and character - it helps make up for what they are lacking which is often times built-in closets! That's especially true in my daughter's house. I recently renovated my granddaughter's nursery and since this room did not have a closet, this DIYing, power-tool-loving Nana had to do something about that! After all baby girl needs a place to store all of those cute baby clothes and accessories!
I found free plans for building an armoire from Ana White. I made a few adjustments to the plans to suit my daughter's needs and personal taste.
Since the length of my granddaughter's clothes will grow, I used a tension shower rod that can be moved in the future instead of a permanently installed rod.
To make the inside of the armoire even more customizable, I used a Kreg jig to drill holes for shelf pins.
The shelfs can be moved to fit future needs.
See my blog post for find out where to get the free plans, what wood and tools I used, and how I customized the plans to suit our needs.
Now my granddaughter has a special, solid-wood, made-by-Nana armoire that will hopefully be passed down to future generations.
A solid wood armoire would probably cost about $1,500. I made this armoire for a fraction of that: about $300.
