We launched our awesome "Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest" on the blog today so I wanted to share my 'Inspired by Mom' inspiration piece with y'all! Here's the before.
She looks so sad, right? Poor vintage rocking chair! She had a cracked back rest and a really hideous dark stain on the rushing in her seat. You can't see it here because the teddy bears were covering it at the garage sale which I found her for only $5.

Yup. FIVE DOLLARS. That was it!
I glued the top of the chair back together and filled the cracks. Enter CeCe Caldwell's Paints and stains. I custom mixed this lovely pink as it happens to be my mom's favorite color. You can check out the full back story on my mom and our fab contest for bloggers, via the link below; as well as the full tutorial, where I even give you paint ratios to create this fab pink! For the rushing, I simply watered down some of their awesome Stain+Finish and added it to the seat to darken the entire thing. That ugly coffee stain is no longer visible and nothing makes me happier than dark brown and pink together.
Details...so pretty! Then, I took my mouse sander to her in order to distress her ever so slightly where natural distressing would occur over time.
To really ensure that the brush strokes and distressing stood out, I finished her off with some of CeCe's incredible metallic waxes as well as their clear wax. I layered the clear, gold, and copper waxes for this lovely weathered and shimmery look.
Here's a closeup of those awesome metallic waxes. They really bring out all of the nooks and crannies in this piece.
You can faintly see the shimmery gold/copper details in this photo when the sun hits it just right. In person, the finish on her is just breathtaking! What do you think? Do you love her in all her shabby glory? Or dare I ask...would you prefer her unpainted? I know, I just set myself up. sigh.
