Welcome to the second installment of my bathroom redo! If you have been following, you already know that I used the month of April to redo my bathroom and competing in a challenge called If you would like to see how I did the counter and sink, check it out here. Now I'm going to share with you how I did my bathtub and shower.
My tub and shower was so outdated and grimy, I still felt a little dirty after I got out of it! Something needed to be done!
So, I cleaned and sanded the entire area and re-caulked. There was a fairly large gap between the tub and surround so I took some extra quarter round moulding and and primed it with a water resistant primer. Caulked and nailed it into place.
After that dried I spray painted, applied poly and installed new fixtures as I had done with the sink.
So, great! I was done and it looked awesome! I was on cloud nine because of all of my creative awesomeness! And then IT happened! Oh snap!

That quarter round that I had use, had moisture in it because of being in the garage for many years and it started to pull away a little and the paint cracked and water was getting in. While removing it to fix the problem, the whole primer, paint and poly started to come off the tub! EEEK!
I applied the epoxy that came in the kit and let it dry for 72 hours. It looked so awful compared to the rest of tub and shower. I then applied fresh caulk and some foam based quarter round. I then repeated the processes of sanding, priming, painting and applied 6 coats of poly. I let it dry for 72 hours, re-installed the fixtures and it was ready to go!

I'm about to do this to my bathtub, but since this is now been several years for you, how is it holding up?

I am sure it looks great now but I wonder, could you have a nice long tub soak in steamy bath water now? Guess I am wondering how durable it will be. I have an old tub I would love to do this to. Thanks for posting yours!
