Turn your unused silver trays into chalkboards to hold inspirational messages, to do notes or to label cheeses at a party!...

Ready to make your own!?...

Get some silver platters and give them a good wash and drying...

Then you will need some Rustoleum chalkboard paint and a soft and thin bristled paint brush... thick bristled brushes will leave ridges in your paint...

No need to tape off the edges... go sloly with your paint brush and follow the edge around the tray and then fill in the full tray... knock down and brush strokes with a few light passes of your paintbrush...

Don't worry about the first coat... it will look terrible... don't fret... it gets better... once this coat is good and try you can use your fingernail to gently scratch off any wobbly edges around your platter... do it carefully as to not peel up more paint that you're trying to...

When the first coat is completely dry you are good to proceed with an additional coat of paint... this second coat will be nice and solid... if after the second coat is good and dry and you can see through any parts put on an additional coat... it really shouldn't take more than 2-3 for the paint to be nice and opaque...

Again... once the paint is good an dry give any edge wobbles a light scrape with your fingernail to straighten them up! :) There is a spray paint version of chalkboard paint but IMO the painted chalkboards have a nicer finish...

Before you can write on your chalkboard you need to let the paint cure for the recommended time on the packaging… then you need to season the chalkboard so that what you write on it does not become permanently imprinted…
To season your chalkboard take a piece of chalk and lay it on its side on the platter... rub the chalk all over the board completely coating the chalkboard paint surface… then get a cloth or chalkboard eraser and wipe away the chalk… your chalkboard is now seasoned and ready for you to write on and display in your home!...
