I have a large picture window with vertical blinds & would like to know how I can just drape a long valance over a rod since I don't want to put up curtains. Thank you

I assume you mean how to you get it to stay on the rod? What I have done is to put a long strip of Velcro (sticky back) on the top of the rod to add traction but not show. Then stretch out the fabric length wise on the floor and gather it into even folds and pin it temporarily every foot or so. Then the fun begins...arrange it it by wrapping and draping until you get the effect you want. Lastly, carefully remove the pins.

Lightly wrap it around one end of the curtain rod, gather a small amount and go down halfway and wrap it around the middle, repeat at the end. If you are not happy with the drape you can either add more or take away in the middle and last end. Just pull it through or take it in.

Have you tried putting another rod that is deeper (sticks out further) than your vertical blind rods over the top and hang valance on it. You could even find a wooden valance and place over top (make one yourself not that difficult) Good Luck

Don't forget you need clearance for the verticals to operate...... 5" projection on the valance is necessary if you have the verticals mounted on the outside (wall) ..... If your vertical blinds are mounted inside the depth of the jam, then you only need a projection of 3.5" ...... Instead of a decorative rod, you may also get the same draped swag look if you board mount the fabric on a 1x4 or 1x6 depending on the projection you need...... Structured swags can be made individually in the shape of a triangle with a rounded bottom..... Then you staple each bell to the lumber..... Too Much Work if you don't sew, but you can do the wrap on a pole look by using a 2" wood pole and either staple or Velcro on the back side of your swag wrap...... accordian fold the long piece of fabric first.... Good Luck!! :-D
