Pond or pondless?

I love the look and tranquility of ponds, but I have to stick to pondless for now, for safety reasons. Got one little boy, and another on the way. I worry about them injuring themselves, and I also worry about mosquitoes.

We had -10 F the night before last...and life at 8500 feet is pretty chilly year round. My "pond" would be a small scale hockey rink for most of the year. We have a ice rink in our town that is a Tennis court in the 3 warm months of the year.

Steve G , a properly filtered pond with moving water (waterfall) will not attract mosquitoes. They breed in stagnant water.

I know that's true, but I would still be nervous that I wouldn't be maintaining it properly. Also, what KMS said, even though my town is significantly lower and warmer than KMS' town.

Barker Meadows Res...is about a block away from my house...at 420 acres it is a pretty good size pond
