Jewellery Box Flower Planter #DIYGifts

Last week, I was browsing around our local bargain store (since I loves me a good bargain) and I saw that they had these cute wooden jewellery boxes for sale for $3.00 each. My wheels starting turning, and I became inspired to create a cute handmade gift for my mom. These would also be perfect with a poinsettia for a lovely christmas gift.
Total cost for this jewellery box planter was $6.50. The breakdown is as follows:
The other items I used (that I already had on hand) were masking tape, white spray paint, and gel Varathane stain in a dark oak colour.
I removed the middle section by gently hammering it until it broke apart. This step was essential to leave enough depth to allow the flowers and greenery to be planted inside.
I then taped off the mirror, and spray painted it white. I also gave it a gentle sanding to smooth is out.
I then decided to apply the gel stain over the white to give it a kind of glazed weathered look.
I then planted the pansies and the greenery inside, added some moss from my garden, and voila! A pretty planter. I chose the greenery specifically for its draping effect. It reminds me of necklaces and bracelets hanging out of a jewellery box.
I love how it turned out, and I also love that I was able to use this gift as decor on our buffet table at my latest brunch get together.
