Chalk Paint brush

Do I absolutely HAVE to use s specific brush for applying chalk paint? They are so expensive, and I've looked for cheaper versions of the round bristle brush like Annie Sloan sells but really can't find any that looks like hers? Any ideas?

I use the foam brushes for that very reason. I also apply the wax with my hand, wearing a latex type glove. Both have worked just fine for me:)

Foam brushes work great and leave no brush strokes plus there super inexpensive and you can toss when done!

@Kathy i used throw away chip brushes and never had any problem, as for the wax i put it on using an old tshirt then i used my power scrubber with a buff pad to buff it up doing the buffing by hand almost made my arms fall off ha ha hope this helps xx

I do a lot of painting and, like you, I cannot afford those expensive brushes. I did spend the money (about $15.00, a one time expense) on a short handled angle Purdy brush. Ily the w\paint with the Purdy then apply the wax with a cheap ($2.00) chip brush. I cut the bristles down to about 1 1/2 inches an - viola - a great wax brush! Hope this helps.

That is supposed to say " Apply the paint with the Purdy......"
  • I always use a mid priced brush, not too hard or too soft a bristle. The softer the bristle the smoother the finish, but if its too soft you don't get a decent coverage without extra work!
