Pink and White Chest of Drawers

I found this chest of drawers while digging through a thrift store. My first reaction was, "Yuk!". My second reaction was "I'll buy it!"
As you can see in the photo below, it was in pretty rough shape, especially the drawer pulls.
Yes they were nasty with some sort of corrosion building up.
Initially I planned to simply replace the drawer pulls, but sadly my checkbook balance said otherwise. So I researched ways to clean the metal. I was put off by the recommendations to use harsh chemicals. My husband suggested vinegar, so I decided to give that a try. I soaked the pulls overnight with good results and then soaked again to get even better results.
After soaking in the vinegar, I scrubbed them with a toothbrush and Bar Keeper's Friend.
I think they cleaned up wonderfully. Not perfect, aka brand new, but good enough to apply paint.
I painted the dresser in pink and white. For the drawer pulls I sealed the metal first, and then applied a coat of pink, followed by 2 coats of white. Next I distressed with sandpaper to reveal some of the pink to tie into the overall color scheme.
Now that it is all fresh and clean I think this piece of furniture will have a second chance.

I didn't even see the nice details of the dresser, until you painted it! I use vinegar for so many things, amazing stuff! Nice job!
