How can I make this plant fuller?

This plant is growing fine but has only 1 stalk. If I cut it and put the cutting in the same pot will it grow? Or do I have to let it root in water first? Thanks!

I would root part of the long stem, and put it in water, when it grows roots, plant it.

Where ever there is a "nub" (usually at the base of each leaf), is the root. Just clip the stem of the plant in between each leaf and stick the part with the nub in water to root. When the root comes out, it's ready to plant. You can plant several in this pot, but may need to move to a larger pot at some point. I gave my dad one of these plants in a smiley face planter 40 years ago, and it's still alive!!!

As your plant grows you will see new growth on it in various places. Pinch off the new growth. But first I would cut the plant and root it. I have pots and pots of golden pothos. That is what the plant looks like to me.

I keep an old vase near a window d when my plants get too long I clip them and put them in the vase with water. When the vase looks like it's getting full I plant all the rooted pieces together in a pot! The plant pictured here is very prolific, and if you water it regularly I will live many years and give you more starts than you can give away!

Your plant is known as a pothos or phylodendron. They are quite easy to grow and propagate. As someone already mentioned, inspect the plant "runner" and look for the little nubs near the base of many of the leaves. These are the buds for new roots. Again, as has already been noted, cut the leaves (including the nub) and place in water until you see little roots. Pop that into your pot and it will grow. You can do this as many times as you have leaves with root buds to place in water. Several years ago a good friend gave me three leaves from her plant and now ours is so large it fills a 48-inch patio table and "waterfalls" over the edge. I just keep rooting and putting back in the pot. I have a huge green mound that is beautiful. I've also shared my plant with several friends who now have large plants of their own.
  • The easiest and fastest way is to get another small plant (HD, 5-6 bucks) and a bigger pot. Transplant both into a pot at least double that size. Make sure you have good root drainage. Only water when you see it start to droop a bit. They grow fast with good light.

Take cuttings from the end . Cut just above the nub on the stem. You can plant directly in the pot or root in a glass cup or small vase. Then put into your pot. If you get 3-4 cuttings and place them in your pot it will get fuller and fuller.
