Turn a Broken Mirror Into Art Instead of Throwing It Away!

When this mirror fell and broke while we were rearranging some furniture, I didn't stay upset too long. Instead of throwing it out, I decided to reuse it and turn it into a new art piece for a bare bathroom wall!
Thankfully, the mirror frame was just fine. Once I am done reusing or disposing of the broken glass inside, we can have a new mirror cut and it will look good as new!

You should use caution when you are dealing with sharp broken glass! To avoid glass spraying when you break the mirror, cover it with an old sheet (or pillowcase, like I did here) before you give it a few well aimed whacks with the hammer.

I used protective eye gear, and heavy gloves while breaking and handling the glass mirror shards. They're sharp! Once the mirror was broken into more manageable pieces I started placing them onto the foam board backing I chose to use.
I glued the mirror directly onto the black foam board with the power grab glue. I let the glue dry overnight, and the pieces are very nicely attached to the board! I love that the black board shows up between the glass pieces as I decided not to grout it and add more weight to the already heavy piece.
After four hours of rearranging glass pieces, and gluing them into place I am super pleased with the outcome! It will look great on that bare bathroom wall! The only cost for this project was $1 spent on the foam board as I had everything else on hand already.

I still have a large amount of the broken mirror left, and several other plans for its use! I may have 7 years of bad luck lined up for me now, but at least I will spend it with some beautiful repurposed mirror art pieces!

If you don't grout between the broken pieces of mirror what do you use to keep from getting cut on the finished product?
