Gray & White Kitchen Makeover

This was definitely the room that needed the most work when we bought our house. It used to be the eye sore and now it's my favorite room in the house!
We replaced the laminate countertops with Arabesco granite. I love the gray tones of marble but I knew marble just wouldn't be practical for a family with two children under four and two clumsy adults who love red wine. So, we went with this Arabesco granite and I LOVE it! The gray tones are perfect. We also replaced our backsplash with a classic white subway tile and used gray grout for some extra dimension.
Our granite company suggested that we run the granite up the back of the bar wall. I'm so glad we took their advice. I think it makes the bar look taller and it's so easy to clean.
We switched out the old fluorescent light fixture for a classic schoolhouse light and we replaced the old super-textured, very beige tile floors for new slate style ceramic tile floors.
We considered removing the pony wall but I like the definition it provides between the kitchen and family room.
I make the curtains using Premier Prints Monroe Slub Snowy fabric from fabric.com.
I love the way the stainless appliances work with the grays in the granite and the gray grout of the backsplash. It's so clean feeling even when it isn't so clean! ;)
The bar stools are from Target!
